View ships passing through both the new and old Panama Canals and cruise into the old canal for a partial transit. This natural paradise features dramatic landscapes of active volcanoes, misty cloud forests, and beautiful beaches. Experience Costa Rica by rafting a gentle river, cruising through mangroves and walking hanging bridges in the rainforest canopy.
Daily Itinerary:
Day 1 - 3 Sat. - Mon., Feb. 16-18       Fly to Panama City, Panama Canal (Day 2-D, Day 3 - B, L, D)
Depart for a four night stay in Panama City, a dynamic city of skyscrapers. Board a ship for a
unique opportunity to see the workings of canal operations first-hand during a partial transit
of the Panama Canal, one of the “wonders of the world.” Pass through Gaillard Cut, the Pedro
Miguel and Miraflores Locks, then sail on the Pacific Ocean to Panama Bay.
Day 4 Tues., Feb. 19                  Miraflores Locks, Panama City Tour                                         (B, L)
From a close-up viewing stand, watch ships pass through the Miraflores Locks where 12,000
ships transit each year in an operation where over 20 million gallons of water are transferred in
under 10 minutes. Tour Panama City visiting the Frank Gehry designed Biodiversity Museum
showcasing the biological importance of the Isthmus of Panama.
Day 5 Wed., Feb. 20                       The New Panama Canal                                        (B, L)
Experience the new Observation Center of the Canal Expansion with two views of the waterway:
the construction site and Gatun Lake. The canal expansion created a new lane of traffic along the
Canal through the construction of a new set of locks, doubling the waterway’s capacity.
Day 6
Thurs., Feb. 21         Poas Volcano                                                                                           (B)
Fly to San Jose, Costa Rica then visit Poas Volcano National Park, home to an active volcano that frequently causes geyser-like ejections of water from its lake.
Day 7 & 8  Fri.-Sat., Feb 22-23                   Arenal & Boat Tour                                         (Day 7-B, L Day 8-B, D)
Visit the artisan town of Sarchi before settling in for two nights at Arenal. Gently float down the Rio Frio while watching for monkeys, sloths, turtles, caaimand and an abundance of bird species. Dine at 
the Eco Termales Hot Springs, where you may bathe in the springs. 
Day 9 Sun., Feb 24                     Monteverde & Bat Jungle                                                                     (B)
Travel to Monteverde for a two night stay. Visit the Bat Jungle with bats free-flying in a giant
enclosure, designed to resemble the cloud forest at night.(Don’t worry, they are behind glass).
Day 10 Mon., Feb. 25                    Ziplining or Hanging Bridges                                                         (B, L, D)
Choose ziplining through the Cloud Forest’s canopy along 12 cables spanning over 2 miles or
walk along the Selvatura Hanging Bridges among forest treetops. The Cloud Forest is home to 500
bird, 490 butterfly, 250 animal and 3,000 plant species. This afternoon visit a coffee farm.
Day 11 & 12 Tues. & Wed., Feb. 26 & 27             San Jose & Home                           (Day 11-B, D, Day 12-B)
Return to San Jose for an overnight stay, then fly to San Francisco and return via motorcoach to San
Joaquin County.
