Escape to the desert and discover the austere beauty of Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra.

Daily Itinerary:
Day 1 Sat., March 5    To the Mojave       (L, Light Dinner)
Travel through Central Valley during spring blossom season. After lunch in Bakersfield enter the
Mojave Desert at Ridgecrest for a one night stay at the Hampton Inn. Relax with a light
dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 Sun., March 6        Death Valley             (D)
Enter Death Valley through the Panamint Valley, stopping at Stovepipe Wells for an opportunity
to climb the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. Walk along a boardwalk to meet Death Valley’s only fish,
the Salt Creek Pup Fish. Arrive for a two-night stay at the Ranch at Furnace Creek, formerly the
Furnace Creek Ranch.
Day 3 Mon., March 7       A Ghost town & the Oasis at Furnace Creek           (B, L)
Begin at the ghost town of Rhyolite, once a gold mining town of 5,000. Dine at the elegant
Oasis at Furnace Cree, Formerly the Furnace Creek Inn and walk through its palm oasis. Stand
282 feet below sea level at Badwater, the lowest spot in the Western Hemisphere. Watch the
desert turn orange, then red during sunset at Zabriskie Point.
Day 4 Tues., March 8       Owens Valley & Manzanar National Historic Site       (B, L)
Travel through the Owens Valley en route to Manzanar National Historic Site, one of 10
relocation centers where Japanese-American families
were interned during World War II. View the scenic
Eastern Sierra traveling along Highway to an
overnight at Bishop’s Holiday Inn Express.
Day 5 Wed., March 9     Mono Lake & Carson Valley       (B, L)
Taste cinnamon bread, apple strudel or cheese bread at Erick Schat’s Bakery, an Eastern Sierra
landmark. Enjoy a traditional Basque lunch at Minden’s J.T. Basque before returning home.

Moderate. It requires walking 2-3 blocks
at a time, standing, taking a flight or two of
stairs and other similar activities.
Reaching Zabriskie Point requires walking
up a hill.
The elevation in Bishop is 4,150 feet.
