Fly to Dallas and tour the Book Depository from which Lee Harvey Oswold shot President Kennedy. Take in a gigantic statue of life-size longhorns and cowboys. Overnight in Dallas.
|Day 2 ||Mon., Dec. 6th Travel To The Hill Country To Fredericksburg (B, L) |
Travel to Hill Country and stay two-nights at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Fredericksburg, a charming German town and birthplace of Admiral Nimitz.
|Day 3 ||Tues., Dec. 7th Museum of the Pacific War & Christmas Lights (B, D) |
Explore the outstanding National Museum of the Pacific War, begun by the parents of Admiral Chester Nimitz. Donations by the George H.W. Bush family greatly expanded the museum’s size and quality. Visit tiny, iconic Luckenbach, Texas, before touring the LBJ Ranch, home of our 36th President and Lady Bird Johnson. After a Hill Country dinner, enjoy a Christmas lights tour, including the Pedernales Electric Co-op Headquarters, lit with 1,000,000 lights.
|Day 4 ||Wed., Dec. 8th The Alamo & Brunch at the Menger Hotel (B, Brunch) |
Enjoy the IMAX movie, “Alamo, The Price of Freedom” before touring the Alamo itself, where Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie were among those fighting against Mexico. Brunch is at the historic Menger Hotel, where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders. Stay two nights at San Antonio’s Drury Plaza Riverwalk. Stroll the riverside promenade, decorated with a fairyland of lights and luminaries, and watch carolers float by on decorated boats.

Watch leather being formed into SAS shoes at the San Antonio Shoes factory, then visit the San Antonio Missions, clustered close together to protect against Comanche attack. Sample Texas Barbeque (always beef, not pork) at the unique Buckhorn Saloon. Attend a demonstration with samples at the San Antonio culinary academy, part of the Culinary Institute of America. After the lights come out this evening, take a Riverwalk cruise.

Travel to Waco and visit Magnolia Market, the store run by Chip & Joanna Gaines of the program Fixer Upper fame in Waco. Return to Dallas and fly to California.
